Combating terrorism with science and law

The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law will host a three-day national symposium October 21-23 in Pittsburgh this fall on the roles of science and law in combating terrorism.

Experts and officials from the fields of forensic science, law, medicine, law enforcement, government and academia will convene to discuss the detection, prevention and investigation of terrorist acts, including those employing explosive, biological, chemical, radiological, nuclear and digital devices.

Dr. Wecht part of all-star lineup

Dr. Wecht will attend a conference of the nation's leading forensics experts May 7 at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Fla. The all-star line-up of speakers wil include Dr. Wecht, naturally, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter and other notables such such as Dr. Henry C. Lee, Dr. Michael Baden and Barry Scheck.

"One cannot overstate the value of forensic science in our search for truth in criminal, civil and family medicolegal investigations and court proceedings," Dr. Wecht said. "This conference is designed to explore and inform professionals and academics, from a variety of disciplines and fields, of the value and scope of forensic science as a powerful investigative tool," he said.
